Who it is for

Who the program is for

The program is for people who recommend research tools to many researchers, openly and as part of their work.

Method trainers and workshop organisers

You teach online experiments in workshops, summer schools or methods courses, and participants need a platform to run their own studies.

Authors of courses, tutorials and videos

You write courses, tutorials, blog posts or videos on online studies, lab.js or experiment design.

Research consultancies and agencies

You run studies for clients and recommend the platform they use to run them.

Recommending Open Lab to a colleague? The referral program gives any researcher €10 in account credit when someone they refer starts a paid plan.

How it works

How the program works

  1. 1Apply

    Apply and get approved

Create a free Open Lab account, then apply on the Partner program tab in the dashboard. Open Lab reviews each application by hand.

  2. 2Share

    Share your referral links

Partners use ordinary Open Lab referral links. While you are a partner, they earn commission instead of the €10 referral credit. State that you earn a commission wherever you share a link.

  3. 3Get paid

    Request a payout

Commission accrues as referred researchers pay. Each amount becomes payable 60 days after the payment, and you can request a payout once your payable balance reaches €25.

For the researchers you refer

What the researchers you refer get

Researchers who sign up through a partner’s link get a 30-day free trial of the monthly Pro plan instead of the usual 14 days. The trial applies to their first paid plan.

Thirty days is usually enough to build a study, run a pilot with a few participants and check the exported data before choosing a plan.

FAQ

Questions about the partner program

Anything not covered here:

Is this the same as the referral program?

No. The referral program is open to every researcher and gives €10 in account credit when someone they refer starts a paid plan. The partner program requires an application and pays 20% commission for 12 months. Partners use the same referral links; while you are a partner, those links earn commission instead of the €10 credit.

When do I get paid?

Each commission becomes payable 60 days after the payment it comes from. Once your payable balance reaches €25, you can request a payout. Open Lab reviews it and sends it by email through Tremendous.

Which countries and currencies?

Payouts are made in EUR, GBP or USD. PayPal is available in most countries. Bank transfer and gift cards are the other options.

What counts as a referral?

A researcher who creates an Open Lab account through your referral link. Commission applies to the invoices they pay in the 12 months from their first paid invoice. Self-referrals and purchases you decide on for your own institution do not count.

What happens if a referred researcher gets a refund?

Refunded or disputed payments earn no commission. The 60-day hold before a commission becomes payable exists to cover refunds and chargebacks.

Can I be a partner if I work at a university?

Yes. If you are employed by a university or another public institution, check your employer’s rules on secondary income before joining. Purchases you decide on for your own institution earn no commission.
