Open Lab

The old Open Lab platform has closed

open-lab.online has moved to the new Open Lab platform

The previous Open Lab platform, hosted at open-lab.online, was switched off on 1 August 2026 after a migration that ran through 2026. Its addresses now bring you here. Researchers work at research.open-lab.online and participants at app.open-lab.online.

Still need data from the old platform?

We can retrieve it for you until 1 September 2026. Email info@open-lab.online with the email address you used on the old platform and the studies you need. After that date we can no longer guarantee access to anything stored there.

You followed a link to open-lab.online

What to do depends on why you were sent there.

You were invited to take part in a study

Studies on the old platform stopped running on 1 August 2026, so the link you followed no longer works. Contact the researcher who invited you and ask for their current link — if they have moved the study across, it now lives at app.open-lab.online. Nothing is required from you here.

You are a researcher

Your studies, tasks and data did not transfer automatically. Create an account on the new platform using the same email address as before, and get in touch if you still need anything from the old one — see the steps below.

What to do as a researcher

  • Create an account on research.open-lab.online using the same email address you used on the old platform. Accounts could not be transferred automatically, and the address is how we match you to your previous subscription.
  • If you still need studies or data from the old platform, email info@open-lab.online before 1 September 2026.
  • If you held a paid subscription on the old platform, message us after signing up so we can apply your free period and transition pricing.
  • Rebuild or re-upload the studies you want to keep running. Your lab.js task files can be uploaded to the new platform directly from the study builder.

If you had a paid subscription on the old platform

These terms still stand for everyone who held a paid subscription on the old Open Lab platform at open-lab.online, including those who are only setting up their new account now. To thank you for your support, we provide the following:

  • You get free access on the new platform for the same amount of time that was left on your old subscription.
  • After that, you get one more renewal on the new platform at your old price (72 € for old Professional, 180 € for old Laboratory).
  • Only after this extra renewal do we switch you to the standard pricing of the new platform.

The mapping is as follows:

  • Old Professional plan (72 €/year) → new Basic academic plan: remaining time mirrored for free, then one more renewal at 72 €, then regular new Basic price (currently 100 €/year with academic discount).
  • Old Laboratory plan (180 €/year) → new Pro academic plan (with updated caps): remaining time mirrored for free, then one more renewal at 180 €, then regular new Pro price (currently 250 €/year with discount).
  • The new Team plan is available on request for labs that need a multi-user setup.

For example, if you had 6 months left on a Professional plan at 72 €/year on the old platform, you get 6 months of the new Basic plan for free after you sign up here, then one more year on Basic at 72 €, and only afterward does your account move to the standard new Basic price. The same logic applies to quarterly and monthly subscriptions, adjusted per billing period.

To claim this, create your account on the new platform using the same email address as on the old platform, then send a short message to info@open-lab.online so that we can set up your corresponding subscription and free period. If you have questions about your specific subscription, write to the same address.

Frequently asked questions

I followed a link to a study on open-lab.online and ended up here. What happened?

The old Open Lab platform closed on 1 August 2026, and studies hosted there stopped running on that date. Study links printed in papers, recruitment materials or invitations no longer lead anywhere. If you were invited to take part in a study, please contact the researcher who invited you — many studies have moved to the new participant app at app.open-lab.online, where they have a new link.

Is this the same Open Lab as before?

Yes. This is the Open Lab platform for researchers. The previous platform was hosted at open-lab.online and operated until 1 August 2026.

I had an account on open-lab.online. Do I need a new one?

Yes. Researcher accounts could not be migrated automatically. Please create an account at research.open-lab.online using the same email address you used on the old platform — that is what lets us match you to your previous subscription.

What happened to my studies and data on the old platform?

The old platform is no longer reachable through the web, so studies and datasets cannot be downloaded from it directly any more. We still hold the data, and we can retrieve it for you on request until 1 September 2026. After that date we can no longer guarantee access.

I missed the 1 August deadline and never exported my data. Can I still get it?

Yes, until 1 September 2026. Email info@open-lab.online and tell us which studies matter to you and which email address you used on the old platform. We would much rather hear from you now than after the deadline.

How do I claim my old subscription?

Create an account on the new platform with the same email address you used on the old one, then send a short message to info@open-lab.online. We will apply your free period and transition pricing to that account. The terms are described below and still stand for everyone who held a paid subscription on the old platform.

Are participants affected?

Participation now happens in the new participant app at app.open-lab.online. Studies that were still running on the old platform stopped on 1 August 2026, and participant accounts there were not carried over.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

For anything at all about the migration, please contact info@open-lab.online.

If anything about the move is unclear, or you cannot find something that used to be on the old platform, please get in touch — we would rather hear from you than have you lose work.
